Job recovery progressing slowly in most states

Posted on Wednesday, September 5th, 2012 at 2:40 pm

Three years ago, the United States lost nearly 8.8 million job positions in what is now called the Great Recession. Today, many states are still trying to recover from this severe economic downturn.

Only four states have returned to their pre-recession employment rates: Alaska, Louisiana, North Dakota, and Texas. The reason for this success is largely attributed to the global energy boom.  Additionally, Washington, D.C., has seen an increase employment as well. However, 23 states are not expected to reach these pre-recession levels until 2015 or later.

Areas where the housing market crashed completely (Arizona, Florida, Nevada, and California) are facing an uphill battle in increasing their employment rates. This is in turn affecting the construction industry, in which many payrolls were cut in half.  These construction jobs have yet to return to pre-recession levels, but hopefully other industries, such as travel and tourism, can help these states continue to increase jobs.

Posted on Monday, July 2nd, 2012 at 2:16 pm

The head of Berkshire Hathaway, Warren  Buffet, fired the CEO of Benjamin Moore & Co. and although many thought it was because of an incident at a boat party earlier this month, Buffet recently made a statement that it was their differing opinions on the strategy of the company the lead to the firing.

Earlier this month, there were speculations that a mishap in Bermuda that lead to a boat sinking while Benjamin Moore executives were at a gathering, was the reason he was let go, but Buffet has said that this was not the reason.

In a letter dated June 21, Buffet stated that the he was unaware of the boat party until he read about in the news. Sources close Buffet stated that they do not believe that the boat party incident had any part in the firing of the CEO.

Recruitment searches: Exclusive vs. Non-exclusive

Posted on Thursday, June 14th, 2012 at 4:43 pm

Using a recruitment firm to help you find the best executive fit for your company is very important. Because of the importance of the position, the faster that it can be filled, the faster you can have your business operating at its best.

The effect that a non-exclusive and exclusive recruitment firm can change the way that a position is filled in your company. Companies have different requirements to fulfill in each type of contract.

For an exclusive recruiting contract, the company is not charged unless the company goes with the candidate that the recruiter finds. Also, the company can still use their hiring process to determine if this candidate is a match for them. Finally, a ‘retained search’ service contract is used in many exclusive contracts.

If you have any further questions on this  process, the CEO recruitment professionals of Construction Hunters are experienced and available to help you determine what is best for you.
